The Quetico Lodge & Conference Center operation is brand new so I expect they will tweak the website layout as time goes on. What I DO know is that the owner (Reagan Hall), during our phone call, distinctly indicated that "complimentary breakfasts" are offered to overnight lodgers. I suppose it would also be prudent to specify on the website whether their nightly room rate is expressed in American or Canadian dollars. For what it's worth, I DO believe Westwood is probably correct... nightly rates are most likely expressed in Canadian dollars. Either way, it equals or beats anything you can find further west in Sapawe or Atikokan. Of course, there is nothing at all within reasonable distance further east, unless you count the Dawson Campground. The nearest reasonable competitor for lodging that I can find is the Sapawe Diner & Motel, located about 15 minutes to the west. While they are a newer facility, the room rates seem (to me, at least) rather exorbitant (nearly double) and, again, there is no mention of complimentary breakfasts. Even White Otter Inn in Atikokan, as tired & outdated as it is, comes in at a higher rate (offering the memorable local ambiance of railroad tracks and The Beer Store). As far as the Atikokan Hotel goes, I've been told it has been shut down (though I don't know that to be a fact). I'll not soon forget the month my wife and I spent there one night 20+ years ago... no AC, windows nailed shut, ceiling fan not working properly and the first-come-first served "shared bathroom" a long ways down the hall. Comparatively speaking, I'll take the QLCC over any of these other options. Later, Jimbo 8-) |
