Title: The Mid-Winter Blues
Post by Jimbo on Jan 27th, 2020 at 1:28pm
... and it's not really been a "real" Winter, yet.  No real cold, just overcast & slushy.

Anyway, you KNOW you got the mid-winter blues when you're ordering your freeze-dried food supplies for your canoe trip 5 months ahead of time.  Of course, last year I think I did it 7 months ahead of time.  These meals don't really have a shelf life, do they?

At risk of the wife thinking I was a bit daffy, I cloaked my REAL motive (ie. daydreaming about canoe trips) with a quickly-cobbled-together counterfeit reason for the purchase: "You see, I just want to, um... ah, be thoroughly prepared should this corona-virus thing get completely out of control."  In retrospect, I'm not sure THAT motive alleviated the nutcase label I was trying to avoid.

CanoeCopia can't come soon enough, I guess....

Some have a shelf-life that is almost as long as a TWINKIE  ;)

You only need them to last 10-12 yrs anyway because it's all over by then anyway::)

A friend of mine is a serious survivalist type. He has a DIY bunker on his Northern MI property. He could last through a nuclear war with the set-up he has.
Most of the stuff he made himself too.

He has every long shelf life food you can think of and some I never heard of as well.

He likes to tell his wife that he's doing if for THEM in case things go really bad. I tell him I KNOW your wife, and ONE of you wouldn't LAST a month in tight quarters.  :o ;D ;D

It has been a great period for skiing in the border country. I've been into the b-dub every day since arriving home two weeks ago. Fantastic snow.

Don't worry, Jimbo. "Real" winter will probably hit around March 13  :-/ :-?
