Title: Sad News ... Canoe Copia has been canceled. Post by Bob B. on Mar 12th, 2020 at 9:59pm
I am sorry to announce this but I just got off the phone with Jazzman who works for Rutabaga, Darren Bush has told them, an executive order from the White house has stated large events are canceled. I guess it is time to cancel plans.
So sorry guys. Bob. |

I was on the fence about going anyway, so now the decision is made for me. Sad news, but not unexpected. I see on the website that wristbands will be good next year.

Given the crisis, I’m not surprised. Obviously, all QJ gatherings are cancelled as well. :(
Don’t forget to cancel your motel rooms. Tell them it’s the caronavirus. Hope to see everyone next year! |

I was looking forward to getting together. Oh well. BTW, they just identified two cases in our home area...Fond du Lac. Folks were on a Nile cruise. Sonny boy, the doctor, said we should think about "socially distancing" ourselves. I think that's funny!
For the solo trippers in our ranks that should be pretty easy! And in the words of Bob B. ......I'll just have to head up to the land and do some "timber time". Ain't nobody around up there. |

I should have kept my room. Just think of all the toilet paper I could have brought home. Dang!

Good Move.
---------------- Dear Friend, It is with a heavy heart that we announce that we have canceled Canoecopia 2020. We have spent a lot of time weighing the choices, and this decision was based on the warnings and strong recommendations that have come out in recent hours regarding COVID-19. Stay tuned for more information about events at Rutabaga in the coming year, featuring some of our presenters and Canoecopia sale pricing on products. We will really miss you all this year, and we hope to see you at Canoecopia next year. We greatly appreciate the support of our paddling family. If you have already purchased tickets for this year’s show, they will be honored at Canoecopia next year. Save the date now for March 12-14, 2021! Sincerely, Darren Bush Owner, Rutabaga Paddlesports |

Well, that's a huge bummer but not unexpected. Hopefully, we can reconvene a few smaller 'Copia-style' gatherings up north.

I was in Madison already and attended the One Match Band's consolation concert in the Clarion lobby. Good times. Better next year I'm sure.

Not sure what you have in mind, Terry, but the Spring Outdoor Adventures Expo is coming up in your backyard April 24-26. That’s if it happens. It’s quite different than Copia, but has it’s own flavor. I’m getting out of the planning business. I’m not planning to plan the QJ gatherings next year at Copia. Someone will need to volunteer. I have knee replacement the same day as Wally 13. My wife and I are getting prepared for a move. Depending on how the knee does, I may or may not attend. 8-) |

I'll probably work that event with my son this year although it depends...they may cancel that as well. Good luck to both of you on the bionic replacements! I expect you guys to be bounding down those portages at record speed with boats in one hand and portage packs in the other! :D
