I prefer to read for information. For broadcast (almost always radio- I don't have TV) I like the government sponsored broadcasters, CBC, BBC, NPR. I want a news source to factual. Fox and MSNBC etc play to their audience, spin wild conspiracy theories designed to appeal to their audience , the theories backed by little more than the guy (its almost always a guy) promoting them on the show [eg COVID 19 having been a bio-agent developed by China]. The outlet should have a rigorous system of fact checking (eg The New Yorker, Wall Street Journal, New York Times) and notification of when they have erred. Unfortunately nearly all of television news has become a ratings driven form of entertainment, and the entertainment consists of getting stirred up and angry over the things that could have been easily predicted would get you stirred up and angry.
Want to figure out what the intended audience is pay attention to the commercials; that alone should shame you into switching channels or better yet turning it off.
