At that homepage link there's a lot of info on the history of this eagle pair. It turns out this is a relatively new male as the original went missing in 2018 right as the chicks were very young (April 18).
It's also noted that a couple nests at this site were destroyed by storms. Here's a video of this man made build of the current nest. (You need to Login or Register I gotta say, what a perfect spot for a nest. Don't have to go very far for dinner! Although when I started watching this years ago I remember seeing some different food sources being flown in for the babies. Likely it was road kill. |

Kinda cool stuff. I saw my first two Ospreys ever around here on a walk about the other day. They were in a tall tree and it appeared that they were looking for a place to nest. I've seen nesting boxes for them on power poles in other areas. I'll keep an eye out and see if they stick around.
Stay safe...... |

Cool stuff. Not about eagles but I saw a pair of Ospreys near here a couple days ago while on a walk about. These are the first ones that I've seen here. It looked to me like they were looking for a place to nest in a tall tree. I've seen nesting boxes for Ospreys on power poles but not in my immediate area. I'm going to keep an eye out to see if they do nest there.

This is an interesting video. I have it started near the end because there's a long lull in the middle. But what you see is Mom eagle coming back to the nest after going fishing. What she brings in is pretty wild.
The beginnng of the video has Dad coming to the nest with food and you see how the parenting works between the adults. So, watch where I've tagged the video then rewind to the start. #Eaglelife :) BTW, it's easy to tell this pair apart just in size alone. Mom is much larger (and older). Mike,
You mentioned ospreys in your post. Interestingly, I have not seen any ospreys in Quetico the past 10 years. I used to see ospreys circling high in the sky and diving into the water catching fish. Seeing such a massive bird go completely into the water and then muscle out of the water in one big swoop ... is quite a thrill. Anyone see any Osprey activity on recent trips? |

That was cool. Thank you! I watched for a while last week and it was just windy. I had the window open in the background and eventually I just couldn't stand the sound of the wind and highway anymore. So that was dad catching his breath before flying off for more? |

I have seen a few osprey up in the Q over the past few years. They are not as abundant as eagles, but there are a few around. Sorry, no pics, though.

In the beginning of the video it's Dad who comes in with a pint size meal for the family of 5. After Mom feeds the youngsters she decides it wasn't enough so flies off to go fishing and comes back with quite the catch. And seeing her out of breath after that haul was quite a sight. I've read that baldys can carry half of their weight in the air. Dad is only about 4 years old where Mom is in her teens I believe. Original Dad went missing during an April blizzard back in 2018. His body was never found. So, new young Dad is still a novice fisherman I guess. This is the beginning of that long video cued up to where Dad comes back from fishing.
