Woah.... You didn't do them at the same time did you? Another paddler on this board just got two knees recently too.

Azalea, You will be happy you had them done, but it might take a few months. Its all about getting the range on motion back, ahead of the scar tissue forming. I had one done in 2009 and its been good ever since. Wish I had not waited so long.
Hope your rehab goes well and quickly. MB |

I’ve had both of mine done also. One in 2009 and the other in March of this year. Excellent results! Work hard on the therapy. ;) 8-)

I have also had two new knees (and a new hip, but that isn't germaine to this conversation. I wanted to do them both in 2013 but my surgeon advised against it.
I had the first one in 2013, with another surgery later in 2015 to resurface the patella. The second one was in 2016. My second knee is so good I cannot even tell that it isn't a "real" knee, it is 100% improvement. The first one still has a few aches and a little stiffness, but I worked hard at PT and got full range of motion in both. Definitely glad I had them done. Good luck to you Azalea, and keep moving!! ;D |

I had my right knee replaced in 2013. My knee was injured from a 1975 downhill skiing accident when I was trying to do a 360. A month after the surgery my knee was less painful than it was before the surgery. Seven plus years later my knee is really good. It is not as good as when I was 24 years old, but we can't expect miracles. Most people have knee replacement because their knees have become too painful and is adversely affecting their life. I remember what my surgeon told me. Before they could do knee replacements people with bad knees had an increased rate of death. The death was caused by the person becoming very inactive and an associated decline in their health. As you know the key is doing your rehab religiously and early.
I only had one knee done. I can only guess how difficult having two knees done at the same time would be. Good luck and best wishes. |

My mother died at age 77. For the last 7 or so years of her life she became almost sedentary. My Dad would say, "Harriet, let's go for a walk" and she would say no. It disappointed him so, as he loved an evening walk, and he would have enjoyed the company. He also hated to see her just sit in a chair.
I have often wondered if HER knees and hips hurt, as well as her back (we knew about that, as she had had spinal surgery in 1950) but she didn't say so. Dad kept moving and lived to be 88, was fairly active right up until he died suddenly one night (dissected aorta.) When my first knee started to bother the surgeon I consulted said "You'll know when you are ready." I had a scope with a minor cleanout, and kept going a couple more years. For me, the deciding factor was when I could no longer sleep at night due to the throbbing. I still wasn't limping and I think that helped with my rehab, since I got my range of motion back quite quickly. Now I have a lot of prosthetics--two knee replacements, one hip, and an aortic valve. I am turning 75 next month and I am just about "bionic." I also take walks--long ones--every day. Mother has been gone for 27 years and I miss her. She never got to see her first great-grandchild, or our daughter's wedding. I wish we had known then what we know now. |

Wrong, your age is an average of all your pieces and parts. (People tell me this is the official rule.) You will only be turning 73 next month |
