In the " I'm too lazy to research it " dept., what's a good tape to repair a hole in a tent?   It's about 2" around.....about the same size as a red squirrel!

I bookmarked those nylon patches PJ. Good item to have in your patch kit.

I know from personal experience how tough this product is. I had some wrapped around a 1/2 wooden dowel to save packing space.

After that sheer wind event tore my Dry-Fly I used it to patch the long tears. Short pieces like stitches to mate the tear then a long continuous piece to seal it. Lasted the rest of the trip.

When I came home and went to peel it off before sending to IC for repair, I found it a real pain to pull off.

In a round hole, I'd seal from both sides. If I used one of PJ's nylon patches, I seal from the inside to re-enforce the hold.

PortageDog repaired a 1inch tear on my 2 person Copper Spur last year with some  Gear Aid Tenacious Repair Tape. An excellent tent repair product. I bought a roll of it on Amazon when I got home to have for any needed tent or tarp repair.

Gorilla Tape! 8-) ;)

I had a larger "Marten" sized hole and duct tape applied to each side and pressed together held fine. Gorilla tape should work even  if its an "Otter" sized hole.

Just take a sharpie and write EXIT ONLY above the hole.

On a positive note at least it wasn't a bear size hole.

You did the right thing Marten. That bear wasn't afraid of you at all. Once it realized those yells/gunshots were not harmful, it just emboldened him even more.

Sooner or later he would have caught you or someone else unarmed and you'd be fighting for your life.

Quetico Dave told me stories about a few bears and a big male wolf that did the same things your bear did out at his cabin on Warner Lk.

The wolf actually had his big old female Newfoundland dog pinned on the ground by her throat trying to mate with her. She wasn't having that and QD had to take action.

That's why I always carry my Bear Spray. Worst case it blinds/disorientates the bear and gives me a chance to run or if I have to fight for my life a little bit of an edge over a blind/scentless attacker. Hopefully that would be enough to survive an attack.

One reason I popped the video in is because this bear was not slowly learning to intimidate people. No one lives  within 12 miles of my cabin. It changed my mind on the need for a hefty can of bear spray when I am enjoying little visited canoe destinations. I never bothered with it because all the bears are wild.

Ordered me some Gear Aid Tenacious Tape today.  Git er' done.
