I'm NOT trying to dissuade you, MB, but maybe they should be filtering the water a little more carefully in Indiana.  Could be something in it that inflames one's ganglia and disconnects one's synapses....

P.S.  Just kidding, of course.  I've made bigger mistakes than that fellow that could have turned out far worse.  Luck is a poor substitute for good "judgment" in the wilderness.


  I took notice of them applying heating pads to him to get his core temps up.

FWIW, I keep 2 heating pads in the pockets of my PFD. You dump and get chilled so bad you can't build a fire right away, you put one pad over each kidney area and hunker down out of the wind.

Those pads will heat your core up enough to get some mobility into your hands and keep you from going hyperthermic.
