Maybe rigging a canoe the same way as the food paks might be worth a look.

This will be my next alarm purchase to replace the one I have now. I like that it can quick clip to a pack.
I think between this, your Bear Spray and that trusty 12 gauge, I don't see a bear hanging around unless he's deaf, lost his sense of smell and wants to commit suicide by paddler  ;) ;D ;D
