Title: Campsite database
Post by Magicpaddler on Jun 15th, 2023 at 6:13pm
I camped at a site that is probably the best place to camp within ½ days travel. A moose trail passes nearby that Stew heard a moose on during the night.  There is space for a solo tent with just a little bunched up because of a tree. I found 2 trees to hang my hammock from with a 45° sloped rock under the hammock.  There is a beaver pond about a 100yds over and 100Ft down to get water to filter.  The GPS coordinates are N48.37233° W91.04235°.  Should I add it to the campsite database?

I say add it unless it's a spot that you think would easily get overused?

Knowing your tripping history that probably wouldn't be a issue ?

I've stayed at small spots that I found because I stopped to take a look even though on the data base they were considered no longer valid. For my needs they were more than adequate.

IMHO there is a lot to be said for finding those hidden gems using a little sweat equity.

It did take a little sweat to get there. I don’t think it will get over used unless it is by moose.

A little sweat?! ...kinda like saying Alaska has a bit of wilderness!   :D  It does overlook a very nice creek and beaver pond.  Sure glad that moose did not join us for the night - what a party that would have been.   :o  It does break up that portage nicely though.

Just because you got there by walking does not mean you were on a portage. There is no portage within a mile of that spot. You have to bushwhack to get there. It was kind of an impressive view. I was glad the creek was at least semi navigable.

And a serious bushwhack it was!  We portaged crap through the woods/swamp - so now it's a portage....not very well established and HIGHLY unlikely anyone (in their sane mind) would ever tackle it again.
