If you decide to go into Russell via Sturgeon Narrows you want to be VERY careful paddling up to the take-out!
  That area has dumped many a paddler. Large whirlpools that if you don't pay attention can get you sideways in a hurry.

People have paddled up the outflow but that's a risky move. If you don't make it you're going backwards fast. I tried and failed but with my double paddle I was able to just rudder and keep myself straight. You dump there, you will have a serious problem.

  My last trip up to Russell was my FUBAR trip.
  Day May 22 will give you some good info.
  There are Sturgeon to be caught where the spill comes out of Russell. I never caught one but it might be worth a try while there?
