Is worth trip if you are tired of ice and snow - spring and fall are best, winter ok - avoid it in summer.  This trip was in early/mid May and was already hot.  Off season is best as there are fewer boats and people.  lots of fishing boats out, you can camp out of one of those it you want to, this is a good place to go.
