Do ziplock bags stop bears from smelling food?? If I put a ham sandwich in a† ziplock I canít smell it but can yogi? A test I do is put moth balls in a bag and set it aside for an hour or two then try to smell it.† I can smell mothballs in a ziplock. The bags that beef jerky or dried fruit come in is a different story. I donít know about Clad Trash bags. Maybe solotripper can tell us.

† Zip-Locks are just part of a multi-layer system.
Most of my food is pre-packed store food that I mix to make one-pot meals. I leave the food in the plastic bag (if it comes in one) and just scrap the bulky box. Then into a zip-lock bag and then in those 2 Glad odor control bags.

Those food buckets have a waterproof twist on lid.
I would think if something is waterproof then it would be odor-proof as well ( coming from inside)?

I don't have a vacuum bag machine. I might get one down the road. I think if you re-packaged all your food in vacuum bags plus the zip-locks, you'd be pretty secure.

† I don't know for sure but I suspect that bears that go after those dedicated bear cans are attracted to them because of food odors on the OUTSIDE of the barrel not coming from the inside?

† How many people clean fish, wash the fillets then wipe their hands on their pants? How many people get food on their hands then handle the bear cans?

† I think my current system is pretty secure. If I get a vacuum machine and don't handle the food buckets with dirty hands it would be about the best I could do.

† Of course the first time a bear gets my food this all goes out the window down shit's creek!† ;) ;D ;D ;D
