The best way to describe this river is a smaller version of the Wisconsin, without all the motor traffic.  The trip from Black River Falls to La Crosse, is a nice easy sandbar camping trip.

Turtle River
I have paddled the Turtle river through Chiipewa Natl forest near Bemidji. Great river paddle with some campsites along the way. Great scenery and some OK fishing. Quiet and easy to get to.
