At Canoecopia last week I had the chance to see a couple speakers.  One of the funniest, I think was Kevin Callan.  He spoke of these old river route in Ontario.  It was very interesting as well as funny.  If you have the chance you should try to see him.  He also has a book with the same name.  Talks about 15 different route on rivers and lakes.  I got the book but haven't had the time to read yet.  Sounds like these areas would be a great get away from lots of people.  I'll try to read more on it and post some later.

Yes, Kevin is very entertaining.  I leafed through the book at the show but didn't buy.  I did purchase some more maps at the show and now my home office looks like the bridge of a lost sea captain with maps strewn everywhere.  I have come to the conclusion that there are far more than 15 "lost canoe routes".  So much water, so little time.  The Pipestone and a return to the Flindt/Brightsand River basins are on this summer's list.

We were down there on Saturday.  Very busy place, lots of faces in the crowd.  It is difficult to place a face with a nickname, but we could have been sitting in the same row for one of the speakers.  I visited with a few outfitters I know and then tried to spend some money, but didn't break the bank like last year.  The commercialization of a such a quiet and peaceful recreation is ironic... maybe it is just me.
