Multi Solo Trip in September

I'll give this a shot. As you may know, I want to take a solo trip in mid to late September that my wife is not too crazy about (thought I've made three solo trips). Tripping with others would releive her fears.

I wanted to do Stumpy's trip, but the timing is wrong (daughter's wedding.)

I've done a dual solo trip with someone that I met on that other bulletin board. We had a good time.

I would entertain a multi-solo trip with others. By multi-solo I mean we travel together but haul our own gear, food, etc. Each has his own permit. We don't have to stay together the whole time.

I'm open to ideas. Maybe we meet up at some location. Maybe we enter at the same entry, maybe we don't. I would prefer to stay in the BW.

I'm not big into fishing, but I do fish. I trip for the fun of tripping and exploring. Hauling photo equipment is a must for me, maybe even a camcorder. I'd consider base camping if there are plenty of day trip opportunities.

Any takers?

The wedding of a niece in June is messing me up, too. Sorry about September, but I don't play well with others.

No problem...I can be that way too. I guess that's why I would prefer I real loose assocation of trippers rather than actually traveling with someone.

This sounds a LOT like me. I'll let you know if I will be around
the BW/Q in September (I don't want to let all of the mid-June time off slip away and have another trip planned for mid-August - three trips might gain too much attention Wink).

Rookie,
I will also be traveling in Sept. with one other. I do not travel well with crowds but maybe we can hook up for a day or 2 that is if our iternaries match. I'm meeting with my traveling partner today to finalize our trip plans, at present we plan on an entry date of Sept. 10th at Praire Portage exiting Sept. 18th, let me know what part of the park you are planning on traveling and when.

flpaddler...I haven't decided where to go yet. Just know I want it to be somewhere I haven't been before. I'm staying in the BW though. Your dates look about right.

I will be traveling out of Lac LaCroix into Quetico in September for 8 - 10 days.  If you are headed into that area, let me know.

Rookie,

How's your planning going?  If you haven't settled anything yet, I am interested in discussing this with you.   I solo in the BW, usually 2-3 times per season and September is always on the itinerary.  Like you, my wife worries about me and this would lessen her fears... maybe.  The entire solo process (planning through exit and all the solitary experience in-between) invigorates me.  On the other hand, there is a quote in the most recent BWJ that rings true for me...   "The seasoned solo tripper will feel wilderness magic known only to those traveling alone - and wish a thousand times over for someone to share it with".  The idea of having an association on the front end and back end of a trip with a loose communication tether in the middle sounds just like what the doctor (or wife) ordered.

Red Solo,

I'm a CPA. No planning yet until after the 15th.

I read that article too. I disagree that one evolves from solo tripping to group tripping. I think one should do both...and enjoy each for what they are.

Let's discuss the possible trip in two weeks.

Red Solo and anyone else interested in a multi solo trip here's what I'm thinking:

My wife will let me do solo trips (I've done three), but she's not wild about it. Doing a multi-solo trip would get absolute blessing. I did this with one other guy last year and it worked out very well. This may be a good opportunity for someone to try solo tripping for the first time without actually being alone.

Some time in September, I would like to take  a trip with a few others (or maybe just one), each paddling their own canoe, hauling there own gear etc., and traveling under their own permit. This may require using an entry that allows quite a few permits in one day, or using entry points that are close to each other and rendezvouing somewhere, or even entering on different days (you go in on Tuesday, I go in on Wednesday and meet up.)

We would camp at separate sites. We can do some day trips together or alone. When traveling, we could do so together or least close enough to keep in contact in case there is a problem. Two-way radios would probably be a good idea.

If there is any interest, let me know.
