OS -

Thanks for the encouragement re: Voyageur Rap.  I'll be sure to send you an autographed copy of my first CD... which should be available for the rest of the listening public late this Summer in bait shops everywhere along the fringes of known civilization... in the far, far North.

You know, I guess I needed a healthy helping of your "sensitivity advice" re: stealing Stumpy's Jamboree thunder.  Your kind words of wisdom AND those headless pink flamingoes from whomever are gentle reminders that even we HR/PR professionals can sometimes grow cynical & callous & cold.

Old Salt, you have touched me.  I am now definitely inclined to re-consider on the general location of the "Old Salt Memorial Shrine".  Last week I was about persuaded to change its title from "Shrine" to "Throne" and then to locate it about: 60 yards behind camp, down wind, under about 6 inches of soil, and -almost always - under a Full Moon.

However, I have heard the Call of Another Nature this week and, consequently, have had a change of heart.  It tells me that I have rushed to judgment & that you are right.  I have misunderstood you.  I beg your forgiveness... and that of Stumpy (currently - or very soon - up in the cold, wet North Woods fishing for Lake Trout).

Also, I have about made up my mind about "the Shrine".  It seems only fitting that your shrine should take the form of a special wildlife preserve within the park, where fishing/hunting by humans for exotic species like chubs & rare Kawnipi Three-Eyed Toads, etc., shall be prohibited.  Anyhow, my vision is an exciting one & it is still taking shape.

I'll be sure to take good pics.

Jimbo... Dare you say...  old_salt "memorial" shrine?????  alas... has the faithful friend and navigator, the cooker of cajun walleye and aluminum foil Laker... met his demise?????  or are you expecting something in the future unbeknownst to the rest of us?????  I would truly be devastated to hear that news... as would be the rest of us...  Or (on a bright note) are you preparing the way for a new song career???? singing ballads about voyagers... (just a thought)  or was it possibly just a mis-use of a word generally associated with shrines...  Oh, yeah that rap was very catchy... next you might try a ballad... how about to the tune of "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitgerald" where it gets stuck in your head and doesn't go away....  oh well, just some random thoughts and ideas...

Bruce -

Geez, good catch!  Here I've been using the word "memorial" and all the while I've meant "memorable"... as in "thanks for the memories, Old Salt".  Yeah - that's the ticket - "The Memorable Old Salt Shrine", as in "Old Salt is such a memorable guy".  QJ World w/o Old Salt would be just as bad as QJ World w/o PJ... and that scare was bad enough back on April 1st.  They are the Ying & the Yang of QJ; they give us our "balance".

And where would QJ be w/o our Ying Yangs?  It's a scary thought.  So I say it is better to commemorate/remember them while they are still with us.

Ballads, you say?  Hmmm... I'll need more inspiration.  I'll have to give that notion some consideration during my long drive to/from work this week.  You see, THAT's when my Muse kicks in, when I'm driving.

I promise that the "Memorable Old Salt Shrine" WILL be worthy!

Knowing OS as well as I do, I would say the original idea for an Old Salt Memorial (Memorable??) Throne was right on target.  We always carry a portable OSMT with us on our trips which has spawned many smiles (and many wisecracks) by those trippers who end up on portage trails with us.  It seems only fitting that a more permanent OSMT be constructed in such a remote location where OS can one day aspire to travel and get the solitude his long periods of musing truly deserve.  Just remember:  if you detect the odor of onion you are getting too close!!

Oh, and on another note... Wink Wink  if you happen to be in the same camp with OS, and awaken in the middle of the night to the sound of a bear growling in camp... (it's not a bear... Shocked Shocked  it's just OS snoring)  just go back to sleep and know that all is well and there is nothing to worry about... Grin Grin Grin   Perhaps a tape recording for posterity should be included at the Memorial/Memorable throne/shrine for everyone to know the real OS...

Just a thought...

What can I say?
I am moved, beyond what words can describe,
To consider that Jimbo, whom I've never met, would honor me with a memorable ''shrine''.
I've never been a ''shriner''.
I do not need such honor, I prefer a signed blank check. 8) 8)
Bruce, thanks for the testimony, ??? ???
regarding my disturbance of nocturnal bliss,
I would be remiss, Undecided Undecided
if I failed to remind Snowdog of the annual barking spiders fest, Lips Sealed
If his tent did not breathe, neither would he. Grin Grin
Our thoughts have shifted anal,
And our minds are somewhat banal,
To retain, is more than mind over matter, Snowdog.
I prefer the sweet gentle release that eases unneeded burdens.
I can only imagine
what the OSMT will be, Tongue Tongue
I will not be there to see,...
Oh well... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

No worries Old Salt.  Jimbo will find the OSMT ideal subject matter for a weeks worth of POD's.  Maybe Snowdog will agree to provide the sound bytes.

okay, okay, okay... the desire for honesty  Wink Wink has driven me to admit... that it may not have been OS who was sawing those proverbial logs at that camp on the egde of Lake Four, on the way back from Hudson, those many years ago...  It may have been another member of that fateful trip who was providing the sound effects that awoke me in the midnight hour and serenaded my ears with the sounds of distant rumblings, snorts, and other various sounds... that kept me awake for a while (although, I have to say it was the first snoring I heard the whole trip...)   However, I will...   when Jimbo has the OSMT established gladly go to where ever it is and pay homage to that dutiful throne... with or without sound effects... Grin Grin Grin  Keep the humor flowing guys...

And I have another thought...  perhaps as a tribute to the board we could arrange as a Grand Door Prize from the Jimboree/Jamboree a canoeing trip with the famous voyagers Old_salt, Jimbo, Snow_dog and Stumpy... Imagine the knowledge you could gain from that trip Shocked Shocked   Grin Grin

And Jimbo could and probably would create a song to commemorate the occasion....

Count me out Bruce, this virtual trip is bad enough.   Angry

I can picture the senerio.  I am sound asleep.  My dream is interrupted by a whining toddler, the dream becomes very realistic, even the burning sensation in my nose of the diaper that needs to be changed, why isn't my wife getting up to take care of it, I remember she is out of town, I awaken to perform the task only to find Old Salt sleeping peaceably next to me, still with that same bean eating grin from the evening meal etched on his face.

One of us is going for a swim . . .
