Anybody been on the Manitowish River in northern Wisconsin?  I've been searching for over an hour and a half on the web now trying to find some maps for it.  My friends and I are planning on a trip in early August.  I've been on the river 3-4 times before but its been 7-8 years and I don't remember too much of it.
Anybody know of any GPS maps of the river I could download?

Coincidentally a regular poster on canoecountry.com just mentioned that he got back from there.  Here's a (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) to his post, you could email him from there.

I went to summer camp in the Manitowish area in the mid-70s but only went on one canoeing trip around there before I lucked out and got sent up to Quetico, which was my old stomping grounds from earlier in the 70s.  I have fond memories of northern Wisconsin but it sure pales compared Q.

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) provides trips on the Manitowish River and has one of their outposts located right on the river. Whether you purchase any of their services or not they are a good source of info about the river....especially fishing info. A phone call to them may be worth your while.
If you do paddle this river take your musky gear. IM for details.

This won't be of much help, but ... (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links); Remember that the Manitowish empties into the Turtle Flambeau Flowage so there might be something found searching it.

I agree about Hawks Nest.  Good folks.  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links); email: info@hawksnestcane.com  They'll certainly have a map of the river.

i have had a great time paddling/ fishing the stetches of the M river approx 10-15 miles above woddruff. my family has had a cabin in the area for 60+ years. i dont know where the put ins/ takeouts are without really lookingat maps, but we put in at at a small hwy crossing and taking out just past the golfcourse. i have had a few days of incredible fishing with smb and lmbs on the river and taken a few muskies in the open weededy patches when the river opens up to lake like condidtions.

have a blast. watch out for "fore" balls on the last streches of river.

I managed to get a copy of a map my dad had this past weekend.......scanned it in the computer and stitched it together.  One of my friends then got some google satellite images and pieced together a satellite map as well.

In case anybody else is looking for a map you can download them from here: (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

The maps are a pretty big download.

I will probably be emailing Hawk's nest since 2 of my friends want to rent kayaks.

Hey,  I'm not going to be much help on maps, but thought I'd just say that I've been on the Manitowish, only about the last ten miles before it enters the Turtle Flambeau Flowage, and it is FANTASTICALLY BEAUTIFUL!  It's very open in that area, lots of  praire, but they stick the campsites in these nice red pine groves.  Beautiful.  A little buggy.  But beautiful.  Have fun!

Unfortunately  we won't be able to paddle the last 10 miles of the river on this trip, but the rest of the river is awesome too.  I've been on the river 3 times or so but its been a long time since my last trip so I'm looking forward to it.  My last trip though was the full lenth if I remember correctly
