I spent 10 days hiking in Wyoming's Wind River Range this summer.  You can read all about it and look at the pictures (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links).

Some of the photo galleries have several pictures, so make sure to use the arrow keys so that you can see all of them.

Piggyn, sounds like you had a great hike! I enjoyed your trip reports from WY and from your first Q trip. Great website. The Cache loop for your very first canoe trip - now that's ambitious! Good for you.

Ranger, thanks for bringing this back to the top, because I missed Pyggyn's report before.

Pyggyn, this is almost as much fun to read as your Cache River report.  It took me back on memory lane of our Wind River Range trip about 6 years ago - we hiked up the Green River canyon, arriving after a day and half at Trail Creek Park, where we camped four nights.  We went on a bunch of day hikes from there, including to the Hidden Lakes area - incredible scenery!  After our trip we drove from Pinedale up to New Fork Lake, which is definitely NOT in wilderness, but the canyon leading up from there sure is spectacular!

The mosquitos were vicious when we were there too.  It was a great trip.  Your pictures are really nice, and you are a great trip report writer too.  Thanks.

Thanks, guys!  Next summer I will be going on my second canoe trip... again paddling the Cache loop.

Now that I've experienced both, it's hard to say whether or not I prefer canoeing over hiking.  I definitely prefer the fishing in Quetico, because you have the opportunity to catch a lot of big fish.  There are hundreds of lakes in the Winds and we did catch a ton of trout, but they were mostly smallish (yet delicious) brookies and cutthroat. However, the incredible mountain views and meadows filled with wild flowers made up for it.  Quetico has a lot of beautiful spots too, but the mountains are just awesome.

Strangely, the mosquitoes were basically nonexistent on our last day after we descended 1000+ feet.  The trip would have been a lot more enjoyable if they had been like that the whole time.   Grin

I've been reading a lot more about photography in the hopes of making the most out of my trip pictures.  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) have been really helpful, and I've learned a lot from them.
