This is a formal open invitation to BBers to join us for the second annual official September Solo Shindig. Last year this was a 'group solo' - participants were Rookie, Beemer01, Beavers and Butthead who journeyed via different routes... meeting up on Insula.

When; September 12, 2006
Where;Meet on Adams Lake BWCAW
Who; Solo paddlers who are seeking a BWCA adventure meeting up with others with similar sized canoes and a similar love of the wilderness.
Why; A reason to solo paddle to a beautiful and isolated lake. Many campsites, so you can camp solo or with a small group.

Included will be a platyfest around a campfire, fine handmade cigars, lots of camp lore, ideas and stories (which may or may not be factual). Roll Eyes

Adams can be reached from either side of the BWCAW so EPs shouldn't be a problem.  Participants can paddle in small groups or purely solo.. or a combination of the two modes.

Last year's story - (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Bounce back with your interest and intent.

Beemer...  I missed jumping into the fray last year due to scheduling issues.  The trip account was great reading and I vowed to do whatever was necessary if you guys put together another trip.  So, count me in.  I'm entering Lake One on 9/10 and I'll be counting the days.

Thanks for the welcome, guys.  The only flaw in the plan is that it will be 6 months and 29 days before I put-in on 9/10 for the SSS!  It seems so far away.  (BTW, thinking of acronyms, thank goodness you didn't plan for an August Solo Shindig)   This trip has put me into deep planning/daydreaming mode and my wife is already rolling her eyeballs.

But of course  Grin

The board of directors is feverishly working on a date and location. We are 97.3% sure it will be SOS this year: Soloers' OCTOBER Shindig. (The other members vetoed that acronym which may jinx the trip so we'll stick with SSS...but SOS is better than SOL  Lips Sealed ). Why October? As Butthead put it: "No bugs. No people. No permits." I'm just hoping: "No wind. No fire. No snow."   Shocked

At this point I will also say we are looking at locations probably more accessible from the Gunflint Trail.

If you have not attended an SSS and are interested in doing so, please email or private message me. For various reasons we will not be making public disclosures of where and when the rendezvous is.

Thanks for the response, but don't think I'll make plans if the trip is not until October.  I've had my fill of cold, wet, windy weather for a while and although October can have beautiful days it is more likely they will be crisp instead.  IC

Dang it!!

I knew I shouldn't have burned up that week of vacation in May!

Will there be a SSS in 2008??

And while I appreciate IC's dislike of cold, wet windy weather, give me NO BUGS anytime!  September or October both work.

(Sorry IC!)

I deeply regret that I will not be able to attend.  I seemed to have burned my Farm & Fleet dress shirt after last year's trip.

I was on Long Island Lake two years ago.  The western site near the portage is a really good one.  Hope to meet you folks again.  I'll be going on my 2nd trip (this one a solo) in 10 days, starting at Missing Link, for a 10-day solo.

Have fun - It was really nice meeting all of the Shindig veterans last fall at Adams.

Signed,

Tom with the bad Farm & Fleet shirt (By the way, my quasi-stepson now actually works at Farm & Fleet . . . so if you are looking for a discount - you know where to find me).

I don't think many other guys could pull off a shirt like that though!  Grin

Would be great to share a campfire again in the future...I'll bring the crappy Vodka if you bring the cheap cigars!  Smiley

The 'long johns were'nt needed till the last day, but a dry set of raingear would have helped! Lots of wind! It settled down for a super day on Thyursday! Saw the bottom of 'old rookie's' canoe between the white caps on Seagull!
