Has anyone fished Lake Missinaibi?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has fished Lake Missinaibi.  I am planning my first Canadian fishing trip and have been reading about Missinaibi on line.  I have a week to fish and this lake is within a reasonable driving distance but seems to be relatively remote - which is good.   How's the fishing and what time of year would you recommend?  Do you have any alternate suggestions.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Just paddled through it - a big lake with relatively few campsites, though the ones that there are are BWCA style; at least some have picnic tables and latrines, and are marked with bright orange signs.  A fair number of motor boat fishermen, but not crowded at all.  A fairly short moderate portage will take you into Crooked Lake if you want to get away from the motors, though I saw one motorboat there also (I think an outfitter keeps a couple of fishing boats there).  Saw one big fish finning near the surface going after bugs, otherwise, the fishing wasn't very hot because the weather was.  All the fishermen I talked too were only catching one or two fish a day.  If you go, plan on fishing at dawn and dusk.  They seemed to mostly be driving up or down the lake heading for structure.   If you are open as to when, I'd wait till fall, maybe eearly Sept.  The Mosquitos were pretty bad, black files mostly gone already now - should be mostly bug free in the fall.

No info on Missinaibi per se, but I was just in the area also (Chapleau & Wawa areas).  Dusk was good off the Chapleau municipal dock!  (see attachment of my 8-yr old's first ever pike ~24")

Fishing was slow from our lodge until we got to smaller, less fished portage lakes.  No monsters, but my boys caught 20+ pike each one day & they were all smiles!

Personally, I think big lakes like that are hard to fish your first time unless you have good local info.  Certainly fish at dusk (I find dawn & dusk in summer way to hard with 5 am / 10 pm sunrise/sunsets that far north!) & target small, less pressured lakes.  Maybe dawn & dusk in Sept would be easy & certainly few bugs.

Thanks for your responses.  I hope to get up to that area some time this fall and any information I can gather will help a lot.

Give us a report when you get back!  I'd like as much info on the area as I can get - it's simply too hard to get to BW/Q as often as I'd like & this area is certainly a good alternative in many ways.
Thanks -Tom
