Koochiching County park

I spent the weekend with friends at a little known local park, Samuelson Park, located on the Little Fork River, West of Gheen approximately 20 miles, just into our neighboring county (Kooch..)  It has a great mowed, grassy camping area with huge cedar, spruce, basswood and black ash trees; right along the river bank.  There is a small outhouse, pitcher pump well and a fire ring.  The river there goes over a sloping ledge rock forming small waterfalls, rapids and swimming pools at this time of year when the water is at low level.  The closest town is about 20 miles away.  The park is several acres of an old pioneer homestead with open rolling hills and natural forest area.  Although low, we could paddle in most areas, having to get out once in a while where it was gravelley and shallow and walk with our canoes to get past those spots.
It is located East of Highway 65 and West of Highway 53, both major northerly routes to access the western parts of BWCA or Quetico or Voyageur's Park.  This would make it a nice overnight spot for anyone driving north, putting you within 60 miles of Crane Lake or Ash River entry points.   Wink

Thanks for the report IC...sounds really cool.

Good to know of spots to stay the night before or after a trip.
