So next weekend I was going to try to plan an Upper Iowa paddle for my other half and myself.
A weekend available for both of us is next to impossible so if we're going to try it's gotta be now. Undecided
I'm not really looking to camp but I am wondering about put ins/take outs also wondering about local pick up/drop off, if thats even a possibility.  Huh
I know there are some Iowa paddling clubs with which I could probably check with but, with all due respect to them, I wanted check here first. Smiley

Thanx Smiley

I like the section from Kendallville to Bluffton.  It is about 15 miles and features the big “chimneys”.  It is a very curvy river.  My concern this time of year would be the strainers.  I doubt anyone has been through yet to clean them up.  I believe the outfitters along the river do this, but it is still too early for them, so be careful!

There is the Kendallville County park in Kendallville.  The put-in is the other side of the river (River Right).  Also Hruska's Canoe Livery is on the same side as the put-indown the road just a bit and they do shuttling (if they are open yet).  Here is their website (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

The other concern is high (or low) water. When the water level at this site
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)  is 4.0, the water level is perfect.  I know from experience that 3.5ft is way too low and that you have leave the canoes often to drag them over gravel bars.   I see that the level today is 6.0. That is too high.  Hope that it goes down before the weekend (though rain is predicted all week).  Remember, too, that the water will be cold.

Be Careful!!!!!  :exclamation
