Here is one of my favorites...Wildwood Wisdom by Ellsworth Jaeger.  Most kids grew up reading nursery rhymes, this was my childhood favorite.  I recently thumbed through it again after several years, and realized over the formative years my intrepid Dad subjected me and my brother to most of the lessons to be learned in it.  For example, our play houses and forts were the standard pine bough lean-toos and the knowledge would have come handy in a pinch if we happened to stray too far into the woods and got lost.
This book is full of great information with clear how-to directions for everything from making your own moccasins to orienteering and how to track the common animals.  Lots of simple things to make around camp and hints to make camping easier and more fun.   Wink
