As I've mentioned in some of my posts and trip reports my trips to Quetico have been as a trip leader and youth counselor for a children's summer camp. I do work year round for the camp and one of my responsibilities is seasonal staffing. I did want to get the word out and make quick posting about or jobs in case anyone here has any interest or perhaps you have a kid, neighbor, etc who might be interested.

Each summer we hire about 5 wilderness trip leaders to lead our groups on canoeing and hiking trips to places like Quetico, the Superior Hiking Trail, and a few of the rivers in Northern WI. Our trip leaders must be at least 21 years old (American Camp Assn standard) and we pay to put each of our trip leaders through a Wilderness First Responder certification course.

We also hire cabin group counselors who also serve as activity instructors. These individuals must be of college age. We're looking for a few more individuals in areas like archery, riflery, climbing, waterskiing, ecology and sailing. We're also looking for a handful of support staff (kitchen, maintenance, etc) if anyone wants a regular job in a great setting.

We're a boys' camp and most of the staff (but not all) that we hire are males. We're in Northern WI and all room and board is included, along with a competitive summer salary. Our season starts in mid June and stretches through Mid August. Obviously we're looking for people who want to work with kids, love the outdoors, and want to get paid to spend their summer teaching others the things that they love doing.

Thanks for the comments... I know there are lots of people who would be interested... its just that its often not easy to reach out to people and spread the word. Its especially tough amongst college age, where there is a bit of apathy and with males, especially, a bit of procrastination.

But the job is a great one. camps are really neat places to work and for those who love the outdoors (and of course like kids), its a way to make a few dollars in that environment.

Man, I would jump at this chance if I hadnt already done the same about two months ago when I signed on at Clearwater Lodge on the Gunflint for this summer.  I cant wait to start working.  I'll be leaving in two weeks and I'm honestly suprrised how hard pressed some of these resorts are to find decent staff.  Allot of kids these days (damn I sound old....only 21 ) dont want to go out and have there own adventures.  It seems to me too many people are living there lives through TV and the internet.  I guess I'm just old fashon....Thanks Dad   I will however pass this info on to a few friends of mine who are looking for summer positions.
