hey, you've got to check this out:
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
fly in/out with two tandem canoes on a service trip to Wabakimi (north of Thunder Bay)
$800 for a week/person, that's less than half the price of a commercial trip
clear portage trails, clean/establish campsites, map area
they still have openings in June and one the last week of May

I went on the Wabakimi Project last year.  It is an amazing adventure, u do work really hard but its worth it.  Just getting up there and seeing the area, very remote !!   Im going back again this year.  If you can join, u won't regret it.

Sooner or later Ranger will weigh in on this thread.  He has done it before &, apparently, had a great experience, too.  "Work" time was fairly well balanced with "play" time, or at least so I've heard.

Phil Cotton & Co. put on a pretty good presentation at 'Copia.  Wouldn't surprise me to hear that openings are filling up fast!

I got my paperwork last night and will send it back tonight.  I will be part of the September 6-13 crew.  Just need to find some other trips to keep me busy till then.

As Jimbo mentioned, I am a Wabakimi Project "veteran", as are Debbie and jdrocks. I was on the first trip of 2006, and I would be going again, but none of the available openings fit my schedule this year. I would be happy to answer questions for any interested parties that may want an unbiased opinion. IM's are welcome too.
