I didn't see this posted anywhere else and sadly I can't remember the author's name. However, this book is a hilarious addition to any camping enthusiast, be it canoe camping or backpacking.  It is about the author's attempt at the Appallation (sp) Trail and his inexperienced experiences.   I read the whole thing in one night it was making me laugh so hard.

For those who don't backpack, view it as a really long portage Wink

The author's name is Bill Bryson and yes this is indeed a funny story of a man's quest to deny old age and bite off more than he can chew. His choice of partner for this journey is nothing short of astounding. This book would be a great take along on any canoe trip.

All of Bill Bryson's books are hilarious as he writes about his travels  in Australia, England and especially the Appalachain trail with his buddy Katz.  These books have kept me entertained in my "office" ( bathroom)
for many hours.  Many yucks! Grin  Definitely a good read to bring along.

I just returned from hiking a couple days along the southern most portion of the Appalachian trail in GA. I kept on thinking about Katz throwing all of the food out of his pack in the beginning of his journey, it made me laugh out load often.

I just picked this book up a week or so ago and am looking forward to reading it. I also just finished Bryson's Australia book, "In a Sunburned Country". That one is worth a read as well. Very funny at times, and the Aussie's have a very interesting history.

try his short history of nearly everything. the cover shows a picture of earth from space with an asterisk beside it. it is a good, factual, scientific, sometimes funny, very informative read.
