Was there last weekend... pretty picked over, but got a bunch of fly tying material & 2 vises for 50% off

Also bought a nice pelican type waterproof case for my camera equipment at a great price. I always bought stuff from that store when I was in St. Cloud & will miss it. Too bad.

The one in Milwaukee, WI, just closed down a couple weeks ago, too.  Is the whole chain going down or just certain locations?

The one in Green Bay is picked rather clean. In this article it states that some stores will be open mostly out west.

I believe that two of three stores in the Denver area are closing. The one by my place is closing right now. Fairly well picked over by now. Although I did get a good deal on a Gerber River Knife. Not that I really needed another blade, but the price was good.

Sportsmans used to be the big (hunting/fishing) outdoors shop here in Denver, then Bass Pro Shops moved in with a ridiculously sized store, complete with restaurant and dealership(s). And now Cabelas is building an equally massive store across town too. So I think the market is officially saturated.

The store in my area bit it last spring, with no fanfare.  I happened by to do a little pre-trip shopping last year and found a note on the door that they had ceased operations the day before.  It had been in operation for only 2 years or so, but it was like they never made a serious attempt to compete.  They established a footprint after Bass Pro (maybe 15 miles away) and Cabelas (maybe 25 miles away).  However, I never saw a single advertisement and their placement was along the back side of a shopping mall.  I guess they figured that being next to a Target store was enough "advertising," but there were also other Target stores in the area.

Go figure!
