Preferred route to Red Lake

Looking at the map I noticed that there are a couple of options for driving to Red Lake from Fort Frances. Anybody with experience or knowledge have any advice on a preferred route? I leave for WCPP on Friday. Thanks.

I think we took 71 instead of 502 up to 17.  Then obviously 105 to Red Lake.  If you're driving at night, watch for moose.  We counted well over 20 moose along the road, and a few of them caused us to check the brakes quite hard.

We used 502. It was OK. The short-cut near 17 to the west wasn't as smooth as the rest. Not much as far as gas stations on 502, maybe just 1??

I made a phone call for you Darrel - here's the poop.

502 road construction is nearly complete to Dryden - just a few spots of gravel from some washouts but a good road these days.  Take 17 to Vermillion Bay and then 105 all the way up.  Shouldn't be any delays other than a few spots with "one lane" only.

Ditto PJ.

You'll want to top gas tanks at Frostbite Falls before crossing border.

My only advice is watch for cops....that road seems to never end, and there's a temptation to step on the gas...don't.
