Canoe Barrel on the Cheap

I was at the discount store in town when I found some barrels with a removable top. At $9.99 I bought 3. I had some pack basket straps that I found and almost threw away after storing them for about 15 years. The straps needed to be riveted on so I put some silicone on both sides of the rivet and anchored the back side with a 1" fender washer.

I haven't torture tested them yet, but they look like it will work.

Clever idea, and you can't beat the price!
I'd give them a good "torture" test on a local trail before committing for a real paddling trip.
From the pic , it appears there is NO waist belt?
I would maybe think about a Sternum Strap for a little more body hugging control? You can pick them up cheap at outdoor stores.
