Stumpy,
By 2015 someone may have dragged you kicking and screaming into the 21st century and you MIGHT have given up aluminum.  Grin

I was just kidding, but I'm sure I'll still be lugging the Grumman.

So Stumpy,  What exactly DOES the Grumman weigh.  56 pounds?  That's not much more than a full sized Kevlar is it??

My grumman weighs 78 pounds...add the portage yoke, paddles shoved in the thawrts, and life vests snapped around the seats, and I'm up in the 80s.

They also made lightweight Grummans (thinner gauge aluminum). Those weighed in at around 65 pounds, before yoke etc..

Although heavy, a Grumman (or Old Town Tripper) is probably the ideal bushwhack canoe.  I can't tell you how many hours I have spent crashing through the trackless bush under a Grumman, while glancing at my compass (all in northern Ontario and western Quebec).  The nice thing is you can drag them through gnarly swamps and pound on their hulls to round up your widely scattered trip mates!

Amen brother !
In fact, I've even used mine as a bridge, several times.
