db, Seeing that there seems to be an uptick in visits to the park, I was wondering if a new Portage DB could be started?    Smiley

And as always thanks for the awesome site, your time, and effort,   --paw

Meanwhile, I'll be happy to share what I can recall re: portages along my two WCP trips in response to IM's.  Also, check out solotripping.com for WCP portage updates (as well as access road & fire conditions updates).

If people wanted to start threads in this forum entitled "Portage: (this) lake to (that) lake" to make it easily searchable/scanable in this here Woodland Caribou Park forum - that would work for me. They could always be moved or spliced or whatever if there was enough interest and WCPP specific trip reports could be added nearby as well. It's a fine idea but my plate of things to do and places to go is full enough.

As always, I appreciate both the desire and in this case the compliment as well.

Torch anyone?

Not my gig, man!  I don't do encyclopedias and dictionaries, either.  Might contribute, won't lead; it's just the way it is.   Not sure how much good I might be anyway.  Mostly I try to FORGET portages!

Hmmm,,, a tantalizing challenge for a long winter.  I even thought of starting a thread.  Then it hit me:  So few of the lakes in WC actually have names!  We should settle on a default labeling system for the no-name lakes before trying to start such a database.  Otherwise, many portages will either start or end at "no-name lake".  Not very convenient for searching!

How about a naming convention that uses either the lat/lon or the Northing/Easting coordinates customary on the Canadian maps?

A great idea but how could it be set up? If that answer is ever found I have a lot of waypoints for WCPP. This includes about 120 campsites.
My info is all in a Garmin file and I am willing to share it. To use it you need the Garmin Software. The Garmin Software and Topo maps make it easy to share and utilize others information. Is there another program that would be universal?

Topo USA by DeLorme and TopoFusion will take Garmin and output to just about anything

what's wrong with waypoints? seems to me that would be the easiest for everyone to use. Couldn't people just compile a text file with Long & Lat?
