Not riveting but certainly interesting. It's worthwhile. Nine men set out to race each other around the world completely unsupported (no stops to re-supply or get repairs) and all under sail. Only one made the trip.

I would agree. At points during the first half of the book I had trouble keeping track of who was where. It gets better as the also-rans fall aside and the story condenses on fewer sailors.

There are some very interesting personalities in the race, and at times it is interesting to see what a solo sail around the world does to a guy mentally.
