Was wondering if anyone has tried Chinook Tarps and if so, what did you think?

It seems like a good buy but I'm suspicious. I wonder if it only has tie offs at the corners? I suppose you could add more of them in.

I know none of us have unlimited budgets and sometimes you luck up on something and get quality for not a lot of dough. I try and go with quality so I don't have to re-buy something because I'm not happy with it.

I'm digressing, but bear with me, IMO things that are well made and of excellent quality are in and of themselves enjoyable to use and not merely a means to an end. I could catch fish with an ugly stick and a zebco but how much more pleasant is the day using a nice outfit.....even if the fish don't bite.

I think I might be blathering. Just get the dern thing and get your best friends mom to sew some more loops in it. It'll get you by for a while.

I wonder if they make a 10x10? 10x14 might get a little klunky.
"Klunky" is that even a word Huh.

I wouldn't even hesitate for the price. Even if you only got a few trips out of it, it would be worth it.

I didn't see the weight listed, but a 10 x 14 won't weigh that much more than a 10 x 10. I'd rather have more tarp than needed than the other way around. With the extra 4 ft, you can rig it similar to a dry-fly and get even more protection out of it when you encounter driving rain Wink

When I bought my first Ugly stick , I though it was a step up.  I liked it so much that I got three more Ugly sticks.  Now I find out that I have been deceiving myself.  I suppose that I'm not suppose to enjoy Morgan David wine either.  Plus, Zebco actually makes some good reels.  I, of course, have one of their cheap models, but it works well.

You know Westwood your right. Probably for the money and especially for canoe trips ugly sticks are actually a pretty smart choice. You really don't have to worry about breaking them that's for sure and they catch fish just fine. A bit heavier than I like and I'm not crazy about how they load for casting but I wouldn't hesitate to use one if that's what I had and with only a minor attitude adjustment I bet I would be happy enough.

And your double right on Zebco making some good products. Their line of better quality closed faced reels are probably the best on the market.

I stand corrected.

Well, there is another consideration, especially if you are flying up.  Putting the rods in a rod case and putting them on the plane is no longer free.  On my WCPP trip last year, I flew to Minneapolis to meet up with other members of the crew.  I'd cached some of my gear at Jimbo's house from a previous trip to Quetico.  Rather than bringing rods back home, I "gifted" the cheap rods to Jimbo!  (He was free to add them to his trash if he liked.)

Here's another vote for Ugly Stiks. I use 'em everywhere I fish, including Alaska. I match 'em with Shimano spinning reels.

Masterangler et all. Appreciate the input!
Almost pulled the trigger on it and due to suspicion you mentioned thought to inquire here first.  Good idea. The link with picks was a useful find (I did some searching and came up dry). My friends wife sews like the wind so i'm all over that adding tabs idea. would like to get a Cooke but er uh... i have widely varying qualities of fishing tackle for sure. It would be great to have all four lines strong (it helped the Blackhawks last year).

It took some looking, but I found some info I can view from work.

Looks like a good product.
