My bad!   Undecided  I just assumed others had run into these since I got my first one at Wally World several years ago.

Actually, I have the "industrial strength" version produced by Sawyers.  Same container, but labeled "Maxi Deet" ... it contains 98% deet.  I keep one in my fanny pack and another in a pocket of my PFD.

Just got back from a trip to Wally World.  While they didn't have the Sawyers version, they did have the Coleman product at 98% deet.

Word of caution with these little containers.  Embarrassed

A few years I took my son on a river float for smallmouth. It was his 1st trip in his own boat. He was 13 and it was a big day for him. I set his fanny pack up with all the essentials.  Bug Spray, Sun Screen, Reel oil etc. All three came in the same neat Little Pump Sprayer with the pocket clip.

Nifty Nifty Nifty unless your a 13 year old who sprays himself the whole day with deet instead of sun screen. I was on him all day to make sure he kept sun screen on and in a tone a only a 13 year old can use he let me know he was keeping it on. Lets just say Deet or reel oil not sure which does not work as sun screen. 9 hrs on the river leads to a pretty bad burn.

Call me embarrassed when I figured it out. Mom was not happy with either of us. I was a failure as parental unit for letting this happen.  Cry

The moral of the story READ BEFORE YOU PUMP.  In my sons case he is autistic so he could not tell the difference. He was just pumping away.
I have also started using electrical heat shrink in colors to let him know what he is using.

I love the pumps they work great. Just be warned to pay attention to what your pumping if you use more than one product.

I'll BET that's not the first time someone has mixed up similar pump spray containers, autistic or not.
I use Bullfrog Bullfrog Mosquito coast Sunblock and Repellent in one.
  It's water/sweat proof and doesn't contain DEET.
I carry 100% Deet for worse case scenarios, but the Bullfrog will do the trick most of the time and having then combined simplifies things.
I don't want to be bitten alive or burned while on a trip. Either one or both can make for a miserable time Sad

I have had great luck with Ben's Max 100 (100% Deet) available from Campmor for $5.99. It comes in a pump spray bottle that will last a whole trip. It comes in a bright orange color ... just in case you put it down and forget where you put it. Don't need much as it is 100% deet. Very effective against the worst mosquito situations.  Given the high concentration ...keep away from eyes. I like to put it in a very small plastic bag in case it leaks.  Best to wash hands very well if you plan to go fishing. There is a lingering odor that I am sure fish find offensive.

I tell you what, if that DEET leaks the plastic bag won't do much, the DEET will literally dissolve it.

Kerry- you are right. Deet will eventually eat away and dissolve the plastic. Thats why I try to limit my applications of 100% Deet to my skin. I probably lost a few layers of skin over the years puttin' on bug dope.

I'm all for organizing your gear the way you see fit, but I do think there may be another factor here that may or may not be a concern Undecided

Depending on your body weight, layers of clothes and gear you hang on your person, will your choice of PFD keep you supported when needed?

You add the weight of your choice of footwear that may or may not fill with water and you could easily be outfitting yourself to the point of  being unsafe?

I keep a lot of gear for a " ditch" in the pockets of my Cabelas mesh PFD. When I bought the vest, I loaded it up and wearing my usual springtime paddling wear, I went for a dip in the local lake. I weigh between 185-200 lbs depending on season/workout regime.

I wear water-shoes with the Brookie Knee Highs. I floated okay IF I had them cinched tight at knee, but if they filled with water, I bobbed like a cork even in calm water. With wind and waves I would have to roll them down to ankles or remove them altogether IF the cinch didn't keep the water out.

I love the vest and adjusted the ditch gear accordingly. I was also at 200 lbs which is higher that normal for me.

It might pay to add your belt gear weight up and substituting waterproof weights, go for a test swim wearing your paddling clothes/footwear and PFD of choice.

Might prove illuminating depending on your weight, gear/clothes/footwear worn and choice of PFD Wink

Mastertangler, after reading your write up I got one of those smoke jumpers belt too. I like it all except for the velcro set up that secures the end of the belt. As near as I can tell the buckle will hold it's place without the end of the belt being secured. I'm tempted to remove those velcro patches, may I ask do you still use the velcro setup? I guess I'm just a crank but I have never liked the stuff.
Best Wishes, Rob

Geez.......I love the stuff. I like the speed and infinite adjustability. I had another belt which worked by friction to hold its place but it was always coming loose by the end of the day. I also like that there is no loose ends and I can secure the end of the belt quickly and easily OVER my pants belt loops.......I'm all about no hassle (it is amazing I put up with the sport of fishing which is just another word for hassle  Wink )

ST.......as per the added weight of my belt gear. Lets see, bear spray(1lb), steri pen, camera, seal pup knife, water bottle all within reach (ahhhhh  Smiley )........Yikes, I had to get rid of the ninja throwing darts  Wink

OK.......I know you are being serious, and you make an excellent observation well worth consideration. Being an average sized guy at 185 I wouldn't think an extra 5lbs around the mid section would matter all that much.........(I put that on during a big meal  Grin ) I wouldn't want to have that gear on without the 35lbs of buoyancy the Mustang inflatable provides that is for sure.

Actually my greatest concern with the stuff on my belt is an entanglement issue with the side straps on my seat. I intend to sew some mesh material in place to alleviate that potential.
