Still looking things over. Here's the situation; I like mountain house granola w/blueberries and milk for lunch. Comes in a pouch which you eat right out of. Swish in the water to clean and roll tight and close with a tiny cable tie. What to do with the refuse? I also like a few bars during the day, again more trash.

I try and be aware of cross contamination as the last thing I want is attention from blackie. In the past I have just double ziplocked trash until an evening fire can take care of it but I think I have hit on something better. The wide mouth nalgene canteen.

I use these as food storage containers and they are ideal. All my oats go in the 96oz version. My fish breading goes into the 16oz version. I like them because they are pliable and it is easy to accurately manipulate the food inside them. Plus they are featherweight, wide mouthed, almost indestructible and have a fantastic seal. In other words they are perfect food containers.

And now I think they might also be a perfect trash can as well. Smiley Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there.

This is what I've always done.  I usually have a few ziplocks handy.  Always one in a pocket for the day's cig buts & snack wrappers.

Why the concern & worry? You'll have bear spray at the ready at all times. Cool

I always use freezer ziplock bags when packing my food pack and seperating meals. This always leaves me with enough zip locks to hold the trash from the day.
