Railriders sale

I've made it no secret I'm a huge railriders fan. If you want excellent, tough and good looking clothing they're it as far as I'm concerned.

As for tripping the eco-mesh shirt is fantastic. Skeets can get through but they have to try. A very light shirt with mesh ventilation running the length of the arms. A must for me in a long sleeve shirt as I run hot.

The adventure top is similar design, a little different collar configuration.

The versa-tac pants are what I use for casual wear instead of jeans. The mid weights are awesome in cold weather.

The weatherpants are not on sale and they are the bread and butter tripping pant for me. I use the extreme adventure pant in cold and demanding conditions.

If there is a bigger gear head on this board than me, MT, it would have to be you.  I'm always interested in what new piece of gear you're up to.  There's a lot of stuff (like cozies) that don't have much interest for me but I must say that I've been eying a pair of weatherpants since you mentioned them in passing with a picture of yourself (and a Walleye) that you posted a while back.  But as you say, they're not on sale.  Anyway, I'm waiting like stock trader - when those weatherpants hit 30% off ... buy!!

It's a very small company. Several times I have had the owner on the line. Occasionally I am able to "finagle" a deal. Give them a sob story about really wanting to give their products a shot (true in your case, correct?) is there anything they might be able to swing etc.........maybe there is a second laying around etc.

Me....... a gearhead?  Wink
Let's just say I have to come to appreciate excellence. I find those articles that are superbly crafted enhance my experience level and are a pleasure in and of themselves to use and not merely a means to an end. Premium articles usually come with a premium price however. That being said I will be surprised if my weatherpants don't outlast me.

I also understand the vein of thought that seeks well made at reasonable cost. There is merit and satisfaction there as well.

No, no.  I'm with you on quality, MT.  Everything from my fishing gear down to my socks are researched and considered.  Some of my tripping buddies think I'm sometimes over the top and that may be true, but for me it's fun to really look for the best possible solution to meet a need.  And of course when we're on the water everybody wants to use my gear which I'm happy to share.  I'd rather wait and do without for awhile rather than buy something shoddy that I will only have to replace and, like you, I get real pleasure out of using an article of quality.  It's an old chestnut that says the best fishing gear won't catch you more fish.  And that's true, but, as a former designer and craftsman (furniture) I know the difference between what will suffice and what will enhance one's experience.  If I only had a canvas tent and an oar for a paddle I'd still be out there on the water but equipping myself with gear that is well thought out and well crafted just adds to the pleasure - but I always carry a roll of duct tape just in case!
As for Railriders, I'm on their list and it seems that eventually everything goes on sale so when the time comes I'll pick up a pair.

I wanted to bump up this old post. I ordered a pair of the Rail Rider Bushwhacker Weatherpants. They just got here and look great. Because of their sale there aren't many sizes left that I could see. I was lucky enough to find my size. So when the time comes to replace some pants check it out.

That said, I wanted to report on the Piragis Canoe Pants I've been using. I liked them, but on this last trip they started to disintegrate on me, top of the thigh area. I'm guessing from UV exposure?? They looked fine when I packed them, but it seemed like dry rot the way they failed. They're a cotton/poly blend.

Some tripper friends have used the Filson Tin pants (waxed cotton) and reported when they fail, it's the same area and the same way. The Filson's are very warm and heavy, but nice on cool to cold days. That said I wouldn't replace them when they're gone, just because of the weight and being too warm on nicer days.
