Super Moon paddle

I went for a Super Moon paddle tonight on Lake James in NC.  A group of 6 of us departed around 8:30 and paddled down the lake to an eagles nest, returning around 10pm.  The moon was obscured most of the night by clouds, but still created an interesting back lighting effect.  The last 45 minutes or so had the moon out in its full glory.

In my new kayak.  Yes I like it and I think I made the correct choice.  It came with a removable "dashboard" that has my GPS mounted on it, some cup holders, two fishing rod holders, and two storage compartments.  I paddled it for the first time with that in.

I am in that uncomfortable stage of learning a new tool.  With the dashboard in reducing the size of the opening, I struggled to get in and out.  And the paddling is different.  In a canoe, paddling is like walking, I do it without thinking.  With the kayak I am not there.  And I feel I use more of my body when I paddle the canoe, the kayak seems to be more arms (at least that was what my arms were telling me).  This was also my longest paddle so far (maybe not in terms of distance but time -- we spent a bit of time just lolligagging).  Toward the end I wished I had adjusted so my back was more upright.

Getting out of a kayak at a difficult landing has freaked me out a couple times. It seems to me that most kayaks are for smallish people. I'm still searching for the right one for me.

Is your new kayak a pungo? We call the "dashboard" a cheese and cracker tray on that one.
