Since WCPP has no portage database, I propose collecting portage info in this thread. (In other words, more submissions, please  Cheesy)

Quote:
Trip_segment____ Date_visited__ Map Length, m    Measured Comments
Garner to Jester August 9, 2012 300 290, 305 Easy, west end marked by big park sign
August 9, 2012 225 123, 117 From west, canoe until it's obvious you need a portage, it's there. Easy.
August 9, 2012 825 837 From west, watch for side channel on left, follow channel upstream 50 m to chute, mucky takeout on left. Easy portage.
Jester to Haggart L August 20, 2012 60 75 Easy portage around rock garden on west side of creek, paddled through scrape-free on the way back
August 20, 2012 20 20 Easy, short
August 20, 2012 30 Small rock garden, waded through on the way back, but would have been easier just to do the easy portage.
August 20, 2012 100 109, 117 Easy
August 20, 2012 40
August 20, 2012 10 28 Easy
August 20, 2012 100 112, 113 Easy
August 20, 2012 60 81, 95 Easy, some wading required at east end
August 20, 2012 80 87, 89 Easy
August 20, 2012 175 178, 189 Easy
August 20, 2012 400 426, 433 Mostly easy, one short slippery section in middle around some deadfall.
Haggart L to Broken Arrow L August 11, 2012 300 323 East end is in small bay at south end of long granite slope, marked by crossed sticks dangling from a tree. Some up and down, but easy.
Haggart R East of B.A. August 12, 2012 not shown 5 Rock garden, can probably paddle through in high water, walk canoe at mid-levels, use portage when water level is low. Shallowest at the west end. Portage is not shown on map, but it is there.
August 12, 2012 150 Not flagged, but takeout at west end is obvious once you're in the small bay.
August 12, 2012 375 389 Easy
August 12, 2012 325 360 Mostly easy, couple of short mucky sections (ankle deep, with some corduroy) in west half.
Adventure Cr from Haggart R August 13, 2012 200 West end marked by tree blaze, but path into forest is obvious
August 13, 2012 410 420 West end is about 150 m south of location shown on canoe map. Steep at west end, slightly overgrown at east end. Moderately difficult.
August 13, 2012 400 329 The takeout was hard to find, mostly obliterated by blowdown. The portage itself was a bit overgrown and had some avoidable deadfall, but fairly easy once you're landed.
August 14, 2012 150 42 Approaching from the west, the unmarked takeout is on the right (south) side of the stream, just before the opening into a little chasm. It is not on the north side as shown on the canoe map. The trail climbs up a steep rocky, mossy slope before leveling out. It is short, but challenging.
August 14, 2012 0 28 Short portage around  (Class IV?) rapids on north side, not shown on canoe map.
August 14, 2012 120 Deadfall blocked the stream west of the west end takeout (unload, pull over, reload). The unmarked portage takeout was on the south side, not far past the blockage. The portage was very steep at the start, then flat. Some mud, some deadfall, moderately challenging.
August 14, 2012 30 32 A beaver dam pullover was needed to get through the stream west of the portage. The unmarked takeout is on the south side, and the portage itself is fairly easy.
August 14, 2012 100 99 Rocky unmarked takeout on west end, but otherwise also fairly easy.
August 14, 2012 70      Unmarked takeout, moderately easy, bit of deadfall.
    August 14, 2012 70 93 Easy
  August 15, 2012 300 269 Easy trail across a granite dome.
August 15, 2012 150 145 Slightly overgrown, one piece of inconvenient deadfall
    August 15, 2012 200 206 Easy
Bulging to Haggart August 16, 2012 0 58 On east side, easy. Not shown on canoe map.

This could be a great source of info. I hear many complaints about not being able to find WCPP portages. Would UTM coordinates be of use if we can provide them?

I have most of the lat-longs from my GPS, so I could convert them and post them if they would be useful.

The maps linked to my "WCPP campsite database" post do show the portages in their correct locations, and the comments above highlight all of the major discrepancies with the WCPP canoe map. Hopefully that would be enough to eliminate most of the complaints, at least for this small area of the park.

What I have seen so many times is that the portage is right there but with no wear and tear it is not easy to spot. If the positions were in NAD 27 UTM's it would be easiest to transfer to paper topos IMHO. I have found it pleasurable to be able to let the GPS lead me the last 200 meters to the portage. More time to be looking for caribou. Cheesy

This is a list of the portages for the Onnie Access on the east side of the park to Carroll Lake on the west side. There are no nasty issues with any of these portages. I used this route in July, 2012. It is an excellent way to get deep into the park in a short time. You can then easily head to many other sections. Keeping a steady pace and double portaging it took me 8 hours to get to a campsite near the east end of Glennn Lake, about 17 miles. It took another 12 hours to get to the east side of Carroll Lake, 25 miles from the Glenn Camp. These times exclude any rest breaks or meal times.

Please understand that there could be some mistakes from entering all these numbers. Overall it should allow for easier navigation across WCPP. The NAD 27 datum matches most of the 50,000 scale topo maps for WCPP. If you enter these NAD 27 numbers in a program set for NAD83 you will be 200 meters off location in WCPP. Please notify me of any needed  corrections.
