Anybody ever done this?

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

These guys have been out on my lake a few times already this winter.  Saw them out again this afternoon and I could not resist any longer.  I bundled up and crossed the lake to find out a little bit more about it.

5 minutes after saying hello and meeting the guys, I was piloting an iceboat solo!

Basically it's a sailboat mounted onto ice skates.  But with no hull in water to slow it down, it moves just a tiny bit faster than a sailboat.  Like about 50+ MPH today and it was not even all that windy!

It is a crazy good time.  If you ever get the chance, give it a try!

Now there is another toy on my list of things I "need", lol!

SD,
I never tried that but always thought it would be a thrill and would do it given the opportunity.

I did try something similar but I wasn't athletic enough to pull it off for very long.
It's basically a wind sailor with skates attached.
I got up and going like hell, but couldn't turn so I dropped sail and crashed and burned Grin
Still the speed and sound was a real adrenaline rush for sure Cool

S_D The acceleration in a Hobie Cat is fast but I'll bet it's even faster in an ice boat.  Cool

Definitely addictive.  My next day off is Saturday and I'm REALLY hoping they are out there sailing again so I can join them!
