I'm just getting ready to head out the door.  Three weeks in WCPP.  Fly in to Larus, down through Carroll, Haggart, east to Wrist and out through Hanson, Glen, Optic and Johnson.  Our packs are ridiculously heavy.  We plan to eat everything in the first two days - ha!
I want to give a special nod to the very intrepid Martin Kehoe whose knowledge and incredible generosity are setting this up to be our best trip to date.  Thanks so much Martin.
See you all in September!

Have a great trip!  I head up to Red Lake on the 15th, and then 2 weeks in the Park. Can't wait.

I was in the park office Aug. 2 and took pictures of the map showing all the portages that have been cleared. The only passage that stood out as not cleared was Hatchet to Indian House. I can check my photos for any specific info you need. As for Kerry, I trod about every step he will take and know he won't have any issues like DD's early season foray.

Folks - in regards to trail clearing efforts in Woodland Caribou Prov. Park, updates have been posted on a regular basis on (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
Most trails have been visited this summer thanks in large to the efforts of Red Lake Outfitters crews and Martin early this spring... and now 4 park interior crews who are making great strides.   Areas not yet cleared are the Upper Chukuni River to Bigshell to Sabourin River, Olive south into Knox, Gammon east to Indian House, Ninjim, and Irregular to Eagle.  To be cleared this week are the following routes:  Indian House to Johnson - Beamish to South Aegean to Bird River to Eagle - Blueberry to Dragon to Mid Kilburn to Leano.   The park is largely open.  Smiley

Ben,

That entire route is 100% open so there will be no problem.  Marten and I personally cleared that this May.  Leano to Killburn and into Middle Killburn were actually the least effected area of the storm.

Thanks Harlan! We'll be coming up the end of the month. I'll try and get the guys to stop and see ya. This is my only canoe trip this year, so your efforts are much appreciated.

Hi folks.  Got back on Saturday from, what my wife and I both agree, was the best trip we've ever been on.  Absolutely sensational in terms of weather, animal sightings, fishing, solitude (at one point we went 12 days without seeing a human soul,) adventure and shear beauty.
At some point in the not too distant future I'd like to post a trip report but I'll need some help in how to put photos up.
I also want to give a second shout out to Martin Kehoe as well as Harlan, his partner and a few others.  Throughout our trip it was evident how much work had been done clearing the ports and in some cases campsites.  Along my route most of that work was done by Martin and it was obvious to both me and my wife that if he hadn't been out there with his chain saws in May we wouldn't have been doing our trip in August.  For anyone that was in WCPP this season those guys with the chain saws are heroes.  Thanks Martin, Harlan et al.

I'll echo the thank you. We came out yesterday ourselves and it's mind boggling to see the devastation by the storm last October. We had to do a little sawing ourselves, but it was obvious we'd never entered the park without the efforts of those mentioned and possibly others not mentioned. The park staff should be applauded for their efforts also. Thanks!
