Wabakimi?

Does anyone have any recent trip reports or information beyond the Wabakimi Project web site (and the local outfitters and K.Callan's chapter in Q and Beyond) on Wabakim PP? I did a quick search of this site and didn't find anything but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist! Been in contact with Uncle Phil recently and am looking for some complementary trip info.....any suggestions, links, info resources would be greatly appreciated!

Go to the Canadian Canoe Routes website ( (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)) and click on "Routes" then"Search". Fill in the first three boxes (Canada - Ontario - Wabakimi) and you will get a bunch of info. (Warning: that part of the site has recently undergone a major re-work / upgrade, so there *may* still be a few glitsches).

It's probably worth registering at that site and searching their forums too, since (I don't think) all the relevant stuff makes it into their Routes section.

QJ is still (by far) the best place to go to for info on Quetico, but for anywhere else in Canada, ccr is probably the best place to start.

JS,

Thanks! Don't know how I missed this site but it is a wealth of good information. You just have to be a bit persistent to search it out but there are real gems in terms of trip reports, route suggestions, recommended outfitters, and logistics. Anything that requires that much effort is not only worth doing...but doing well! This planning combined with a few other trips plans and my lure making should get me through the winter...or at least to Canoecopia  Cheesy Thanks again for the info!

The Symposium the Wilderness group (website host) does in Toronto in Feb is well worth going to. IMO a much more serious and all around better list of speakers than Canoecopia.

Good place to get face-face with some other tripping people for trips outside of Q.

Hey Jim J,

I saw that in my web research last night. Looks interesting but wasn't sure if it was worthwhile. Thanks for the suggestion though -- I might try to get out there for that one. Did they have posted the speakers/agenda that you saw?

I haven't looked. It might be early?? It's all in one hall, so you don't have to choose between speakers. I never looked at who was speaking. They have plenty of breaks and I usually sat through as much as I could. It's weighted heavily to arctic/river tripping, interspersed with some arctic cultural/research info.

I'm considering this seriously. Have some clients/contacts in Toronto...so could almost justify a trip  Smiley in Feb.

Thanks Ranger. Used to live in Denver a while back but never paddled --- whitewater rafted though outside (west) of Colorado Springs! Hiked/camped & mt biked a lot. Miss the mountains...but I have lots of forest and lakes to keep me busy here in MN. What route do you do when you went with Uncle Phil and his 'gang'? Feel free to direct me to a trip report or two!
