I went halibut fishing out of Homer at the end of last June.  We caught many small halibut, and I had three 15-pounders cleaned and shipped home.  Great eating fish!!  Catching them was not so much fun. It was like pulling up a 4X8 sheet of 3/4 inch plywood through 120 feet of water, with my line attached to an eyebolt in the middle of the sheet.  Damn hard work. I can't imagine how hard it would be to pull up a big one!

But it was great fun, and exciting to see whales swim past our boat as we fished!

Bucket list filled.

Sounds like your charter captain just went to closest chicken patch. Too bad. While I've had a few chickens, the 60+ lbers really put up a nice fight. We've also gotten ling cod, P-cod, rockfish. They all eat good. We have gone out of Seward & Juneau. Alaska is an awesome place!  Cool Thumbs Upup Thumbs Upup

My brothers-in-law didn't want to fish!  But humored me by agreeing to a 1/2 day.  So we went out to the "chicken field."  No time to go further.  I still had a blast, and caught some nice cod too!

Next time I go, I'll be bringing empty coolers to fill with salmon and caribou steak!
