So I'm re-reading Tim Mead's book Quetico Adventres and just finished his account of bushwhacking into Pierna then continuing on to Gamble Mater before coming out into "civilization" on Burt Lake.

I really want to get into Pierna before I am unable too. So I'm just putting this out there to see if anyone else is interested. Ideally a group of 4-6. I would be in my solo boat and propose staying on the lake for at least 3 nights. I would prefer September when the bugs are down.

I'm going to find that book and read up on it. Might be an interesting adventure as well.

It's a good book to read over the winter. I'm an adventurer at heart and getting in to Pierna and maybe staying for a bit sounds really good.

I don't currently have a gps and am not inclined to get one so what I'd like to do is flag the route in with ribbon. Then remove it on the way out. I'm pretty sure Tim used map and compass and was at least in his 50's when he did it. However, he's more adventurous than me because I have no desire to press on to Gamble Mater and then Burt.

Wow. Thanks to Spartan 2 for alerting me to this thread. My son is here with me and we agreed it has been 20+ years since we went into Pierna. And we did it by map and compass. We took the small creek coming into Sark and followed the creek all the way to Pierna. Thanks, too, for the kind remarks for my book, Quetico Adventures. Available from my website.

Tim!!  I'm happy you poked your head in here.  Is Pierna worth the trouble?

This lake has interested me also. Has anyone here made the trip recently? Thank you.
