Four of us flew in with Bluewater Aviation of Bissett, Manitoba.
$575 US each person for the round trip fare. This was including the tie- on fees for two canoes. Last year a friend and I needed 9 days to get to the lake we landed on this year.

What a great video and trip.  Cool

As a dedicated double paddler, I found it interesting that so many of you were using a double paddle even while in a tandem canoe.

I've always thought two guys with double paddles that could get in synch could do well. Looks like your crew felt the same way?

We were set up so on layover days any of the three canoes could be used. We like the double blades for the solos and I have found I prefer them bow or stern in a tandem. A double blade in the bow let's me easily aid  in steering. It is very easy easy to slip in a quick draw stroke. I do not fish but enjoy paddling someone around to catch my favorite supper. Even on windy days I can keep them pointed to the right spot.

Marten,

I enjoyed watching your video and seeing a number of places that I saw in 2016 accompanying a bunch of boy scouts on a Northern Tier trip up through that same area.  We put in at Scout Lake, then up through Noname, Kawaseecheewank, Sasaginnigak, and back down to Scout Lake.  We stopped for a nice lunch at your big rock campsite on Kawaseecheewank.  The fishing where the rapids emptied into the lake was incredible.  I unfortunately only got to fish it for about 20 minutes before the crew was done with lunch and wanted to move onward.... but in those 20 minutes I caught 1/2 dozen walleye up to 6 lbs or so.

That Otter floatplane handled our crew of 9 with full gear with zero problems.  Flying back in there again with a pair of SR17's strapped onto the floats sounds like an great idea!

Thanks for sharing,

Dave

Wow Dave! Someone who had been in that area. I know NorthernTier puts a lot of scouts in there so we go in August after they have pulled out. Fire has altered things a bit now. We were going to use the dock on Scout Lake to start our trip but it was semi surrounded with smoldering forest so we opted for Noname. Noname and the rapids portage-campsite on Kawascheewonk burned shortly after we moved on. I would like to talk or have contact with someone from Northern Tier Bissett about the long portage from Kawascheewonk Lake to the Bloodvein River. If you have any such contact info could you have them contact me.

I know this summer the big fire started on July 15 and within 3 days all scouts were plucked from the area and the remaining trips given other areas as options.

Great video Marten.

The pics of the fire on the horizon at night were stunning.

I think I would have been sleeping with one eye open on those nights with the fires so close to your camp.

Well done.
