This link is in reference to Copia. Cool

I think we can all benefit from information sharing on caronavirus. We especially appreciate information from any medical professionals who may play here. Cool

Not a medical professional but a mathematician.  The issue is exponential growth.  And if things get out of control it will overwhelme the healthcare system so many of those who would otherwise survive with good healthcare (which is still happening now), would not because the healthcare system would be so over burdened.  Here is a chart. I cannot vouch for the exact number's accuracy, but it shows what happens with exponential growth.  Reducing infection rates (for example by reducing groups sizes) has major effects.  And at this point, COVID is an order of magnitude more infectious than regular flu (we have vaccines and immunities to regular flu).  See also this article, (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

The article provides some great information about the spread of the pandemic. My concern is that not enough people are talking the virus seriously, and aren’t willing to do whatever is necessary to combat it.

This is the kind of information that is helpful. Thanks for sharing it. Cool

I don't know how to post the link but try googling "Event 201".  It's an exercise in what happens during an unexpected pandemic.  The excercise was held in Oct. 2019 and I believe was hosted by John Hopkins and others.   Pretty good read (w/videos) and chillingly accurate as to what is happening today.
Be careful out there.....we had our first death in Fond du Lac, WI a couple of days ago.

I've come to the realization that it's going to be like this for quite some time.Let's say after 3 months of people being diligent and no major gatherings have gotten things under control and there's hardly any new cases popping up.  So what happens if we go back to life as we knew it?  Concerts, baseball games, family picnics, cruises, etc....

I think it's like a dry forest waiting for a lightning strike.  IMO we need a vaccine asap.  And we need to better prepare this country and the world for the next one.

That’s the crux of it. And will things return to ‘normal’? What will the new normal be like? No one saw this coming, or if anyone did, it wasn’t taken seriously. I just had knee replacement surgery last Thursday so staying home is part of the plan. Cool

Azalea,

This is an EXCELLENT summary of the situation.  Thank you for posting that link.  Along with what Michael Osterholm has published and what messages Dr. Fauci tries to send us through the fog of politics, it is as good of a statement re: the current situation as I have seen.

I have long admired the poetry of math.  I believe the following quote says it all:

"Without mathematics, there's nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you is numbers."

Shakuntala Devi

Every American should read that link you have shared, especially folks who still insist on "partying", or believing this is a hoax or will go away when it gets warm, or was ever "under control" in the USA.  The time for that has past.  Now it is time to try to "control the numbers" (ie. flatten the curve).

Thanks, again!

Yes Azalea, thank you for that link.  I'm also going to to include this 15 min. exerpt from a podcast of Joe Rogan interviewing Michael Osterholm not long ago.  He's a Twin Cities guy and I highly recommend the whole podcast which is on Itunes and you tube as well.  He gets into the moose and deer situation in Minnesota as well as where these viruses originate. Good Stuff
