Have any of you hammock aficionados ever been awakened by thunder in the middle of the night, while in your hammock? If so, did you imagine yourself as a filament in an incandescent light bulb? Or is that what the tarp over you is for?

Thunder & lightning has never bothered me all that much in my hammock.  Rather, I am more concerned about becoming a piņata for a storm-driven tree, a bear seeking breakfast, or a moose on its morning stroll down to the water hole... the latter instance being something that nearly DID happen to me on Cirrus Lake at a camp near Sue Falls. 

Since then, I've been more cognizant about avoiding straddling game trails with my hammock shelter set-up.

Jimbo, that's a nightmare scenario hanging over a game trail.  Gotta hope those moose are wearing their night vision glasses. 

As for lightning - I think it would be curtains if either tree took a direct hit.  Not sure but I don't want to test it out.

If I remember correctly, that happened two nights in a row.  I was in a small clearing nearby and only had to hope that those heavy foot falls didn't land on my tent.

AND, we hung around that campsite just long enough to witness an all-night rain so we could enjoy the complete ambiance of the Cirrus to Kas portage when it was soaking wet!

Is it possible to paddle a portage?

Ah, yes!  What a mistake, especially for me.  That was my pre-hip surgery trip.  DD practically had to carry me across that dang portage!

On the brighter side, I do recollect having one of the best afternoon hammock naps of my life on that windy midlake island on Kasakokwog!
