I like LLBean Maine Hunting Boot, w/ a goretex sock inside(wet proof). The leather uppers will lace tight for ankle support, the gum shoe rubber is the best traction on rocks either wet/dry. They require some work to get water resistant, they never get waterproof. The combination will keep your feet dry, unless you let water in over the top. They do let a bit of shock transmit through to your feet, so you have to step lightly on uneven rocky surfaces and sharp edges. The traction is really good, I would stress. I have the 12" tops. /r JA
