You might want to take a look at the Vexilar 'Boundary Waters' model LC-10 (http://www.vexilar.com). It runs on 8 AA batteries, and weighs less than 3 lbs. I know a guy who has one, and he raves about it. Says it'll run all week on one set of batteries (No, neither he or I work for Vexilar). The idea of hooking up two 6V batteries is interesting. Think I'll get a suction-cup transducer mount and try it with my Lowrance.
