I know of the portage in which you are refering to. I haven't been through to Emerald Lake at least that way. But I have walked the first portage to the small lake. First off it isn't used much at all, and then it is a pretty steep climb which then drops off quickly.
The Man Chain is a beautiful place been there 4 time in my 9 trips. I think though it would be faster and quicker from Carp Lake. If you need any help on your planning let me know. bo_47108@yahoo.com
